چکیده

In a recent work [1] we have shown that the curvature of the phase transition line in the chiral limit can be obtained from an analysis of the universal scaling properties of a certain mixed susceptibility (χm,q) which is defined by the leading order Taylor expansion coefficient of the chiral condensate with respect to the light quark chemical potential. Numerical calculations have been performed for (2+1)-flavor QCD keeping the heavier strange quark mass close to its physical value and decreasing the two degenerate light quark masses towards the massless limit. We will make use of a recent scaling analysis [1, 2] of the chiral order parameter performed with an improved staggered fermion action. This study showed that the chiral order parameter is well described by a universal scaling function characteristic for a three dimensional, O(N) universality class. As a result for the critical line in the chiral limit we find

The Qcd Phase Diagram for Small Chemical Potentials

We compute derivatives of thermodynamic quantities with respect to μ, at μ = 0 for 2 and 3 flavors of degenerate quark masses. This allows us to estimate the phase transition line in the T, μ plane and quantify the influence of a non vanishing chemical potential on the equation of state by computing lines of constant energy, pressure and density. Moreover we evaluate the order of the QCD phase ...

On the QCD Phase Transition at Finite Baryon Density

We investigate the QCD chiral phase transition at finite chemical potential μ, using the renormalization group (RG) to characterize the infrared behavior of sigma models constrained by the flavor and spacetime symmetries. The results are similar to those obtained from RG analysis of the finite temperature transition at zero baryon density. When there are more than two massless flavors of quarks...

Cosmological and astrophysical aspects of finite-density QCD

In the early universe, at high temperatures and almost vanishing chemical potential, we expect from asymptotic freedom that quarks and gluons are deconfined in a quark-gluon plasma (QGP). As the universe cools by expansion, a transition to the confined phase, a hadron gas (HG), occurs at T⋆ ∼ ΛQCD. Lattice QCD at vanishing chemical potential provides important insight into the nature of the cos...

Finite density QCD with a canonical approach

We present a canonical method where the properties of QCD are directly obtained as a function of the baryon density ρ, rather than the chemical potential μ. We apply this method to the determination of the phase diagram of four-flavor QCD. For a pion mass mπ ∼ 350 MeV, the first-order transition between the hadronic and the plasma phase gives rise to a co-existence region in the T -ρ plane, whi...

We study the thermal properties of QCD in the presence of a small quark chemical potential µ. Derivatives of the phase transition point with respect to µ are computed at µ = 0 for 2 and 3 flavors of p-4 improved staggered fermions on a 16 3 ×4 lattice. Moreover we contrast the case of isoscalar and isovector chemical potentials, quantify the effect of µ = 0 on the equation of state, and comment...
